Welcome to The 80s and 90s Overlooked, where we dig up the forgotten gems (and glorious disasters) that somehow slipped under your neon radar. Get ready for deep dives, hilarious commentary, and a whole lot of “Wait, this actually existed?” It’s like if Blockbuster had a bargain bin for pop culture… and we’re the treasure hunters who dug it all out.
Indian Summer (1993)
During the last episode of season 7 of “The 80s and 90s Uncensored” podcast, Jamie recommended people should see the movie “Indian Summer” without having seen the movie. So, Jamie and Milo sat down and watched the 1993 film written and directed by Mike Binder to see if it is worth watching this summer. Note: This video has a couple swear words in it.
Bright Lights Big City (1988)
Based on the book of the same name, Bright Lights, Big City follows a young writer living in New York City who resorts to substance abuse in an attempt to escape the pain of losing his mother and being separated from his wife. He spends his nights partying with a friend and struggles to function during the day.
Northern Lights (1997)
In this episode of Overlooked, Jamie and Milo are joined by Allison McClain Merrill to discuss the 1997 film Northern Lights. The movie stars Diane Keaton, who finds out that her estranged brother Frank has died in a small town, and that she has a nephew she didn’t know about. This film first aired on the Disney Channel and since then Disney has tried to distance itself from the movie. In this review, we try to find out why.
Galaxis (1995)
In this episode of Overlooked, the guys look at “Galaxis” (also know as Terminal Force). The sacred crystal, the source of all life, becomes the center of a cosmic struggle. Kyla (Richard Moll) seeks its power, but Ladera (Brigitte Nielsen) races against time to secure the identical crystal on Earth.
The Perfect Weapon (1991)
The guy's review the overlooked action classic "The Perfect Weapon," starring Jeff Speakman as Jeff Sanders. Jeff is an expert in kenpo karate who tries to help his old friend with the Korean mafia. Jeff uses his martial arts skills to find the man who killed his friend while reconnecting with his family.
Cool as Ice (1991)
In this episode of “Overlooked” the guys take on the 1991 cinematic gem, “Cool as Ice,” featuring the ‘90s sensation, Vanilla Ice. Brace yourself for a wild ride as Vanilla Ice essentially plays himself, cruising on a motorcycle in hot pursuit of a girl. Some stuff happens along the way, but in the grand scheme of things, it’s safe to say that the plot might not be the film’s main attraction, if anything is.
Hell Comes to Frogtown (1988)
In this episode of Overlooked, the guy's review Hell Comes to Frogtown. 80s wrestling super star Roddy Piper stars as Sam Hell. In a post-apocalyptic world 68% of the male population was wiped out and virile men became a rarity. Sam Hell, a highly virile man, is forced to help rescue a group of fertile women kidnapped by humanoid frogs so that he can impregnate them.
Doctor Mordrid (1992)
In this episode of Overlooked, the guys review the 1992 film Doctor Mordrid. In this mystical adventure, Jeffrey Combs portrays Doctor Anton Mordrid, a sorcerer and guardian of Earth. Faced with a cosmic threat, Doctor Mordrid battles against the malevolent sorcerer, Kabal (played by Brian Thompson), who seeks to unleash chaos and destruction upon our world.
Easy Money (1983)
In this episode of Overlooked, the guys review the lesser known Rodney Dangerfield classic Easy Money. Rodney plays Monty Capuletti, a drunken slob who has one year to clean up his act to earn some easy money.
Trespass (1992)
In this episode of Overlooked, we’ll be reviewing the 1992 movie “Trespass”, directed by Walter Hill and starring Bill Paxton, Ice-T, William Sadler, and Ice Cube. The film follows two firefighters, Vince (Paxton) and Don (Sadler), who stumble upon a gang of ruthless criminals led by King James (Ice-T) and Savon (Ice Cube) while searching for some missing gold.
Gymkata (1985)
In this episode of Overlooked, the guys review the 1985 film Gymkata. Direct by Robert Clouse, the film stars Kurt Thomas as a gymnast who learns karate to compete in a deadly game and to find his father.
The Slumber Party Massacre (1982)
In this episode of Overlooked, the guys review the 1982 B horror movie classic ‘The Slumber Party Massacre’. Directed by Amy Holden Jones and written by Rita Mae Brown. The film stars a bunch of people you most likely never heard of, as they have a slumber party, while a killer with a drill is on the loose.
Virtuosity (1995)
In this episode of Overlooked, the guys review “Virtuosity,” the 1995 film starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. The movie follows Parker Barnes (Washington) a former police officer as he tracks down a virtual reality Simulation (Crowe) that escapes into the real world.
The Phantom (1996)
In this episode of Overlooked, the guys are joined by Derick McDuff of the Underrated Podcast to discuss The Phantom. The film from 1996 stars Billy Zane as The Phantom, a descendent of a line of African superheroes, who must thwart a wealthy criminal genius from obtaining three magic skulls which would give him the secret to ultimate power.
HouseSitter (1992)
In this episode of Overlooked, the guys review the 1992 comedy ‘HouseSitter’ starring Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn. Martin plays an architect who builds his own house to not live in. That is, until he visits it to find a cute con-artist living there played by Hawn.
The Black Hole (1979)
In this episode of The 80s and 90s Overlooked the guys watch Disney’s first PG film The Black Hole. Made in 1979, the film follows the crew of The Palomino come across a ship thought missing sitting on the edge of a black hole. Investigating, they find the ship to be manned by a scientist and his robots.
Martial Law (1990)
The guys watch Martial Law, the 1990 straight to video release starring Chad McQueen, Cynthia Rothrock, and David Carradine. The film follows two cops who are also martial arts experts who are out to stop a criminal organization headed by a ruthless boss who’s also a martial artist.
Joysticks (1983)
In this episode of Overlooked, the guys review the 1983 film ‘Joysticks’ directed by Greydon Clark. The film follows a group of young adults who have to fight against someone who is trying to close their video arcade.
Better Off Dead (1985)
In this episode of The 80s and 90s Overlooked, the guys review the 1985 film ‘Better Off Dead’ by Savage Steve Holland. This is the first of two films that Holland made with John Cusack. The film follows Lane Meyer (John Cusack), who after his girlfriend dumps him for a ski-jock, decides to kill himself. However, he consistently fails at this as well, until a challenge to a ski-off with the jock gives him some motivation to live.
Best Defense (1984)
In this episode of The 80s and 90s Overlooked, the guys review Best Defense. The 1984 comedy starring Dudley Moore, Kate Capshaw, and Eddie Murphy. Before he made Howard The Duck, director Willard Huyck made this movie. Dudley Moore plays a lazy weapons engineer who is working on a part for a new tank. Eddie Murphy plays a guy who was paid a lot of money to crack jokes in the tank.
