We’ve been thinking about having guests back on and I’m starting to scout some of my favorite fellow nostalgia podcasters as well as some actual celebrities to see if they’ll actually join us. Stay tuned to this magazine if you’d like an early look at some upcoming guests.

Russia is the Enemy Again!

If you were a kid in the 80s, Russia and their Soviet Union was the enemy. Coming of age in the 90s, however, they really warmed up following the collapse of their empire. As a US Navy sailor, my ship even made a port visit to Vladivostok in the late 90s. Can you imagine a whole ship of uniformed American sailors walking around a major Russian city? Just another reason to miss the 90s: The world was relatively peaceful, and Russia was just focusing on rebuilding. The “War on Terror” and “Great Recession” were still a few years away. Even the effects of climate change were still not felt like they are today.

It seems though that we’re more like the 80s now and my son can see the “Ruskies” as the same enemy to world peace and freedom as generations before. I would have been far more pleased if he didn’t have to join those ranks.
